Marcigny, a small town nestled between the hills of Southern Burgundy, has been home to Emile Henry for the past 150 years. Faithful to its origins, the entire production is carried out here. Thanks to its clay, rich in refractory properties, Burgundy has remained a fertile area for potters, passing on their savoir-faire from generation to generation. Clay, a natural and noble material, has been used since the mists of the time to cook or preserve food. While respecting the traditional techniques, Emile Henry has introduced technological improvements (Ceradon ) so that the dishes are more resistant to mechanical and thermal shock. Strong and durable, all Emile Henry pieces can be taken directly from the freezer to a hot oven, can go under a broiler and are microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe. The natural clay is unsurpassed for conducting and retaining heat. All pieces are perfect for everyday use and carry a 3 year warranty against defects.

Quality Product
These dishes are great for everyday use and have a great finish that will last and not chip. I wish I would have purchased these the last time I bought dishes but thought I could get by. They may cost a bit more but well worth the money.

Wonder dishes
I love these plates. They are solid, very simple but nice looking. I wish I had known how much I would like them before I started ordering them in small orders- I should have just gotten the full set all at one time. My only complaint about them is that the labels on the top and on bottom are quite difficult to remove. I have tried every hint I could find on the web and finally decided that a combination of things works- I peel off what I can, soak in hot water for a while to get more off, then soak with vegetable oil for about 30 minutes and paper towel off. But they are worth it and somebody probably has a better method. Unlike another poster I do not find that these scratch at all- and they are used hard in our house. We been using parts of this set for about 2 months and they look completely new.
The perfect elegant, but practical everyday plates!
I'm one of those people who likes to keep the fancy set for guests. But I'm also very fussy about my dishes so for more than a decade I've been using a mish-mash of plates looking for the perfect everyday set...everything I saw was either too expensive, too fancy, or too cheap (made in China) or just not my taste.
But this is it: elegant but simple, durable, practical--everything I want in an everyday set. First, the plates are a very bright white, compared with ivory of many, which I like better for showing off the colorful food I cook. The rims are minimalist and fairly narrow--giving the plate a lot of "eating surface." The plates have nice heft that makes them feel substantial, but they are not annoyingly heavy.
The underside of each plate has two concentric rings of rough beige colored ceramic, which results in a nice substantial sound when you place the plate on the table--like the thuddy sound a clay pot makes rather than the "ringing" thin...
